How Medium and YouTube Are Pretty Similar to Each Other

There’s one thing that I’ve realised, and it’s that Medium is the YouTube of blogging. How? Well, both platforms not only focus on content creation, but they also focus on the social aspect, with creators encouraging their readers to actually engage with the content (i.e. “Don’t forget to subscribe for more content”, “Give this video a thumbs up if you found it useful”, “Subscribe to my newsletter to get awesome tips” etc), along with the ability to get paid for your work, which sounds sweet if you want to make some extra cash.

Why You Don’t Need That Fancy MacBook Pro for When You’re Just Starting Out

So, you’ve decided to become a software developer. You’ve seen the obviously staged Instagram photos of millennials smiling as they tap away on the keyboards of their MacBooks, whilst staring at a huge tonne of code, ever so gently convincing you to learn how to code so that you too can live a life like them, tapping away at your £4,000 MacBook from anywhere in the world. Let’s face it. …

You’re taking the plunge. You’re deciding to learn a new programming language. That’s great! However, are you just learning the fundamentals so that you understand how it works, or are you getting yourself stuck in tutorial hell for no reason by doing course after course after course, but not taking anything away from it? A quick introduction to this blog

This blog will focus on my journey as a self-taught frontend web developer and designer by building in public. My aim is to inspire and motivate people to do the same as well as having a platform to document my journey.

The story so far

Last year, I decided to take the plunge and learn how to code in order to know how to build websites without having to rely on templates and site builders to do the job for me. Whilst I did a bit here and there with coding, I didn’t do much as I wasn’t…

I guess companies having a culture (even if it meant having neon signs and pool tables) meant that potential employees wanted to work for them because it seemed like a cool place to work since it was cool and "down with the kids". Now, that doesn't matter. The cool physical perks don't matter anymore. It's not like anyone can enjoy them any time soon. Company cultures and perks seemed like a silly gimmick anyway.

This is something that I need to work on some more
